Sorry I can't type Japanese here....but I have a question!

This is what my boss said to a client and I want to know if it makes sense to everybody...

It was 3:50pm and he knew that he was leaving at 4pm.
'Hi this is ____. please call me back within an hour.'

I symply thought why you don't say 'whithin 10min'.
What if the client call him after 4pm?
He's gone already... even though he said 'whithin an hour'.

He said it's a business time frame.
I still don't get it. mmm...
Is it because people are relax here so 'whithin an hour' doesn't really matter?

What do you think????

Well, I guess it depends.

Does the client have to talk to HIM? Or can somebody else in your office handle the issue? If so, asking the client for calling you (guys) back within the business hour is no problem to me.

When the employee has a strong relationship with the particular client, s/he would often tell the client when s/he can answer AS A FAVOR, but I think it is very common not to do so especially in a company where each employee has fixed shift.

If that's not the case – ONLY HE KNOWS what to do with the client's issue - It's his problem. That wouldn't be accepted in my office anyway.

Does your boss carry a blackberry? It's pretty common nowadays. If that's the case then it doesn't really matter when the client calls back. Also, 10 minutes is an unreasonably short amount of notice, so that might be a reason as well.

mmm He doesn't have any cell phone...and
He is the only one who knows what the client needs..!

So I was wondering..if the client calls back and he is not at the office, I just could say 'he is not here...' then isn't that like...'huh? you said within an hour..??? what am I calling for...???'

Anyway he was saying I should understand business more...and I didn't get it so I wanted to hear what people think!!!

Oh by the way, the clint didn't call back, so it was OK.
