where to go in japan
(トロント) 2013-07-18 09:40:42Hi I'm going to japan in September. Where are the non tourist places to go see the real japan? Or mainly Tokyo area. Thanks.
東京市浅草区新吉原
神奈川県川崎市川崎区堀之内
It's hard to pick "non tourist places". Many places like Asakusa would be disqualified. How about Shibamata?

There are no places to go see the real japan.
竹島
原爆ドーム
兼六園 偕楽園 後楽園
富士山
金閣寺
6はすべて観光地でしかも東京エリアから遠いものばっかり・・・

Shikoku and Kyushu areas are probably good for that since it's harder to get to for tourists.
Not sure what you mean exactly by 'real Japan', but if you go to Shibuya, take a trip to; Nonbei-Yokochoh,1-25-10,Shibuya,Shibuya-ku,Tokyo
JR Shibuya-station East Exit 2 minutes.
It's a cool side street bars and eateries spot although it was somehow swarmed with tourists last time I was there...
If you mean non tourist places like where people live, Yanaka ginza would be my suggestion. There are some historic sites as well as shops.
Kagurazaka is also fun to walk around, find interesting restaurants and bars and to have a touch of history.
It's still quite hot in September, so hitting a 'beer garden' is a must!
There's a party cruiser that goes around Tokyo bay in summer. You get to see people in Japanese traditional summer clothes as well as drink like silly.
Sorry if you don't drink, just realized most of my suggestions are for drinking...
Have fun!

Nakano, Koenji, Asagaya on JR Chuo Line.
There are pop culture and a normal life, and It is easy to get there from city center.
