Can someone recommend me a good authentic Japanese restaurant downtown (preferably owned by Japanese)? I've been to Ema-tei, Tokyo Grill and some others. They were good but I'd like to try some other places. Thanks!!!

I am sorry, there isn't any really authentic Japanese restaurant in Toronto.

Kaji is not in downtown.

I just list Japanese restaurants with Japanese owner or chefs
in Toronto downtown without any recommendation.
(I prefer not to do so)

Ichiriki:
Japanese owner =Sushi Chef,
2 other kitchen chefs are Japanese too.

Nami:
Korean Owner
but General Manager=Sushi Chef is Japanese
Some more Japanese chefs and Chinese chefs as well.

Toshi Sushi:
Japanese Owner=Sushi Chef
I do't know kitchen chefs.

Yasu
Japanese Owner=Sushi Chef

I know only those 4 in downtown.
May be more. There are some in uptown of course.

Thanks for the information. More than 10 years ago my Japanese friend took me to a small cozy restaurant located in the basement of a building. He said the owner is Japanese. The daily specials were written on pieces of paper taped to the wall. He introduced me to Oroshi Hanba-gu there. I've never seen that dish elsewhere since. Does anyone know where this restaurant is? Maybe it closed down. I've lost contact with my friend so I can't ask him the name or location.
